What is Hypnosis
Hypnosis is similar to relaxing back and listening to a pleasant story, except that the words you hear are specially tailored to helping you achieve what you want for yourself. As you listen to the suggestions, you can find yourself drifting into a state of mind similar to daydreaming or being absorbed in an activity like reading a book, where you are no longer pre-occupied by everyday concerns. Here in this more relaxed place, your subconscious more readily absorbs the ideas you hear and finds it easier to come up with solutions to your problems. Afterwards, when you return to your usual attention, you may be pleasantly surprised at how remarkably positive and refreshed you feel.
Is it a magic wand?
Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis does not magically change your thinking and behaviour without any effort on your part. For a successful outcome, you need a willingness to change and do things differently, as well as a commitment to working as a team in the sessions. Half your hypnotherapy session is dedicated to building your self-belief and exploring the steps you need to take to achieve your desired future, whilst the other half, the hypnosis, provides you with ideas and motivation to carry you forward.
Will I be safe?
Most people's experience of hypnosis is limited to seeing people on stage or TV doing ludicrous things to entertain an audience, so it is natural to feel apprehensive about having hypnosis treatment. With clinical hypnosis, the approach different and importance is placed on your goals and your need to be safe and in full control of yourself. Your brain has a critical faculty, which only allows you to take on suggestions that are in alignment with your own morals and ethics, so rest assured that you cannot be made to do anything against your will. If you have any further concerns, we are more than happy to discuss them with you so you can feel confidently calm about your treatment.
